Filling up the rooftop pool at Le Fort Pouzols-Minervois is always a special moment. It signals the start of the summer season.
This year’s activities around filling up the rooftop pool are especially poignant, as it was only earlier this month that strong frost destroyed young growth in many of the surrounding vineyards overnight.
The rooftop pool at Le Fort Pouzols-Minervois rests on its own support tower, which was constructed before 2006.
At one point a glass wall on the mezzanine level allowed residents and visitors to look directly into the pool from inside the house. That changed when the glass broke and a tsunami of pool water swept through the house.
Filling up the rooftop pool is done by our longstanding team member David. He also discreetly maintains the pool for use by guests during the summer season.
From the rooftop at Le Fort Pouzols-Minervois you can enjoy unrivalled views of the Black Mountains (Montaigne Noire), Corbières Hills en Eastern Pyrenees. Yet the rooftop terrace itself is wonderfully private.
On good days, weather permitting, you can clearly see the snow-capped Canigou mountain – a distance of 160 km (97 miles)! Kestrels, swifts and house martins circle the skies above Le Fort Pouzols-Minervois all day long. You may even hear the distinctive call of the hoopoe between early April and late August.
The roof terrace with its plunge pool is a perfect place to relax or entertain. The tall dining table consists of two halves that can easily be moved onto the terrace for leisurely meals and apéros, the French tradition of late afternoon drinks and nibbles. With the fully equipped summer kitchen available on the top floor, everything you need is with easy reach.
The pool itself is continuously filtered and cleaned by a state-of-the-art filtering system. The water is gently heated for added comfort, which also ensures pleasant use of the pool before the heat of the summer hits the water.
