Frost in large parts of France is threatening to damage the vineyards. The French Ministry for Agriculture has even declared an emergency situation, which means that banks and insurance companies can provide financial support for winegrowers.
In famous wine regions like Alsace, Chablis and Bordeaux farmers have placed candles and burners throughout vineyards to keep the frost off overnight. Vines are also sprayed with water to protect young vines with a thin layer of ice.
Luckily, the vineyards immediately around Pouzols-Minervois seem to be safe for now. The forecast is for temperatures to stay above freezing overnight for the next few days.
